Overview

AIM for Scale is proud to kick-off its Global Weather Partnership with a three-day convening hosted in partnership with the Gates Foundation in Nairobi, Kenya on May 29-31, 2025. This convening will bring together representatives from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS), Ministries of Agriculture (MoA), multilateral development banks, international and regional organizations, research organizations, and others to align on the next phase of work under the AIM for Scale Weather Package.

Building on commitments announced at COP29, partners will now turn to implementation. Designed as a series of working sessions, the convening will focus on operational planning, country engagement, and coordination across the core components of the Weather Package. Sessions will support joint decision-making on benchmarking, training, and dissemination, with the goal of accelerating the delivery of actionable weather services to farmers.

Objectives

The convening will provide space to formalize country commitments and coordinate concrete actions for 2025 and beyond. Specific objectives include:

  1. Co-design strategies to disseminate forecasts to farmers at scale in AIM for Scale priority countries, including ways to improve delivery and messaging.
  2. Define agricultural use cases to inform operationally-motivated benchmarking and validation tools.
  3. Identify training needs and priorities of NMHS, MoA, and other relevant stakeholders to co-design a training program on AI weather forecasting for agricultural uses.
  4. Outline roadmaps to implement all components of the Weather Package in participating countries through 2027.
